Alphabet Mystery By: Audrey Wood
Alphabet Mystery is about letters used by a little boy named
Charley. In the beginning the letters realize letter X is missing. They fly the
magic pencil to over to find that little “x” is at the castle. Little “x” had
left because he did not feel like he was used enough by Charley. Master M
threatens all the letters that he will thrown them in alphabet soup, until they
tell him they need to fly back for Charley’s mothers birthday. All alphabet
letters go back and make a cake for Charley’s mother. In the end, little “x” is
used on the cake for the meaning of kisses. This book can be used to help teach
the alphabet to children and also helps them to find words that may start with
the certain letters for example “x”.
K is for Keystone By: Kristen Kane
This book goes through each letter of the alphabet
relating it to specific people, places or things associated with Pennsylvania.
The book gives a sentence for what the letters stand for and then it gives an
excerpt of informative information about it on the side of the page k that the
teacher should read to the children. This book can be read to children to help
teach the letters of the alphabet but also a lesson about the history and
specific people and places that are associated with Pennsylvania.
Boom Chicka Rock By: John Archambault
This book is about mice running around a kitchen dancing and
singing to make a birthday cake but the key is not to wake the lion also known
as the cat. The mice run around until the mice number twelve decides to play
with the cat’s tail. The cat awakes and all the mice run and hide. The book
rhymes and demonstrates rote counting up to twelve. This book is good because
it shows the different mice and all different numbers for the children while
having fun trying not to wake the cat.
L is for the Last Frontier: An Alaskan Alphabet

This book goes through the alphabet and teaches children about
different aspects of Alaska. Like the book K is for Keystone, this book also
informs children about people, places, and things. This book is good to read
because it helps children learn about the state of Alaska and gives them a
chance to learn the alphabet as well.
One For All: A Pennsylvania Number Book By: Trinka Hayes
This book counts up to 100 talking about all the different
landmarks, people, symbols and events are relating to the state of
Pennsylvania. This book helps children learn about Pennsylvania and also count
the different things listed in the book as well. This can be used in a math
lesson or even a history or geography lesson talking about Pennsylvania.
Some Smug Slug By: Pamela Duncan Edwards
This book is about a slug that decides to climb a slope one day, until he is inturrupted by all the other animals including a squirrel, sparrow and spider etc. Finally, he reaches the top satisfied with no suspicion until he finds out the slope was a sham. In the end, the sham eats the slug. This book is great when teaching the letter "s" to children.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom By: Bill Martin Jr.
This book is about all the letters of the alphabet and climbing up the coconut tree. Once all the letters have reached the top, the letters fall down. Oh no! The book goes back through all the letters again explaining what happend. This book is good for children to teach the alphabet, rhyming, and the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters. It is is appropriate for pre k through first grade.
