Patricia Polacco
Patricia Polacco is one of my favorite authors. In her children's books she deals with specific issues such as illness, racism, slavery, and same- sex parents. Patricia feels that exposing children to these books, helps them to learn about different issues and topics in todays society. Polacco feels that the most important people that she calls her "heroes" today are the teachers that impacted her life. Patricia states, "If you have changed just one child's life you have done something pretty spectactular. And in my opinion teachers change hundreds of lives a year." All of her books come from real life experiences that have influenced her throughout her lifetime. Some of the books included on my booklist by Patricia Polacco are Luba and the Wren, The Lemonade Club, and In Our Mother's House.

David Shannon
David Shannon is another amazing author who continues to inspire many young children through his books. Shannon is the author and illustrator of many children's books including, the popular No David!. Shannon wrote this book when he was only five years old, using the only two words he knew how to spell. Sure enough, this book inspired him to write as an adult. It is now a best seller and Caldecott Honor book. Some other work written by Shannon is A Bad Case of Stripes; Alice the Fairy; The Rain Came Down; and three more picture books featuring David: David Gets in Trouble; David Goes to School; and most recently, It’s Christmas, David!
